English as a Second Language
English as a Second Language (ESL) is the study of English by those for whom English is not their native language. While this term is popular, other options are to refer to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and when English is studied in a country where this language is not a native or national language, English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
